Daily Mail columnist Amanda Goff has analyzed a recent podcast interview featuring Australian television personality Karl Stefanovic and broadcaster Piers Morgan, suggesting Stefanovic's remarks about his dismissal inadvertently cast his wife, Jasmine, in an unflattering light.
In an episode of The Karl Stefanovic Podcast, recorded aboard a superyacht in Cannes, Stefanovic discussed his departure from the Nine Network's morning show, 'Today,' following a controversial interview with Tommy Robinson. When Morgan inquired about Stefanovic's emotional state after losing his long-held hosting position, Stefanovic became tearful, stating his wife "puts up with a lot" and found it difficult to see her upset.
He recounted Jasmine's initial confusion over how an interview could lead to his dismissal. "Jasmine was really upset at first and she was like 'I don't understand how you can do an interview and get sacked as a result of it,'" Stefanovic said.
Goff, who previously worked with Morgan in British tabloids, posited that Stefanovic's explanation framed his wife, a 42-year-old fashion designer with extensive experience in luxury branding, as someone who could not comprehend the basic commercial realities of television. "In painting himself as the bewildered victim, he ended up making his smart, accomplished wife sound as if she couldn't grasp the basics of commercial TV," Goff wrote.
She argued that Nine, as a commercial network reliant on advertisers and shareholders, would have faced significant consequences for a high-profile presenter interviewing a figure like Tommy Robinson, particularly in a climate where advertiser boycotts are a real threat. Goff asserted that this distinction between a personal difficulty and a clear commercial decision was likely understandable to Jasmine, given her background.
"Either Jasmine is genuinely perplexed as to why Nine might have had an issue - which I simply don't believe – or Karl, trying to strengthen his own victim narrative, has made his own spouse sound like a clueless housewife," Goff stated. She contrasted this with Morgan's own departure from ITV's 'Good Morning Britain,' which she described as a "clear-cut commercial decision" for Stefanovic, stemming from financial risks outweighing reputational damage for the network.
Goff suggested that Stefanovic's attempt to present himself as a victim by implying his wife did not understand the situation was a misstep. "Whatever your view on whether Nine overreacted or should have stood by you, most people can see why things unfolded the way they did," Goff commented, adding that such an explanation insults the audience's intelligence.
Stefanovic and Morgan recorded their podcast episode on a superyacht. Stefanovic had been a host on 'Today' for two decades before his dismissal.
Jasmine Stefanovic is described as a 42-year-old fashion designer with experience in high-end fashion and luxury branding, married to Stefanovic for eight years.
