Columnist Argues Against Excessive Nail Art and Judgments

Columnist Clare Foges has expressed a strong opinion on women's nail aesthetics, declaring nail art "naff" and advocating for a more natural appearance.

In an opinion piece for the Daily Mail, Foges stated that she is a "snob" when it comes to women's nails and that the most appealing nail type to her is "bitten, chipped or broken." She reasoned that this is her "natural state" and that it fosters a sense of "kinship" with other women.

Foges suggested that women often judge each other based on their nails, a sentiment she admits to sharing. She implied that excessively elaborate or artificial nail designs detract from a woman's overall presentation, particularly in professional settings.

"If you’re going into an interview for a serious job with flowers or crystals on your fingertips and I were the one hiring, you ain’t getting the job," Foges wrote. She also commented on the perceived artificiality of certain nail trends, such as acrylics, suggesting they create a distance between the wearer and natural femininity.
