Colts WAGs Express Anxiety Over Team's Trade Spree
Spouses of Indianapolis Colts players voice concerns about potential futures with the team amid a series of significant player departures.
The Indianapolis Colts have initiated a substantial trade period, leading to apprehension among the spouses of the team's players, known as 'WAGs' (Wives and Girlfriends).
The team officially began its roster changes Tuesday, trading away two prominent players, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson, within hours of each other. Nelson was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, followed by Buckner's departure back to San Francisco, where he was originally traded to Indianapolis in 2020.
These moves come more than a week after the team's general manager, Chris Ballard, was dismissed. Assistant general manager Ed Dodds has assumed interim leadership of the team's management.
Amid this franchise restructuring, partners of the Colts' star players have expressed worries that they might be the next to relocate. Ayanna Taylor, wife of star running back Jonathan Taylor, shared her concerns on TikTok regarding the team's decisions and their potential impact on her husband's career.
In one video, Taylor reacted to the trade news with visible shock, with a caption indicating her unease about players being traded and her husband potentially being next. She questioned the safety of any player on the current roster, noting that the departures felt like a return to the uncertainty of her husband's rookie year.
"Is literally anybody safe on this team? I've never known the Colts organization without these people and it kind of feels like rookie year all over again. So, naturally, my mind is spiraling. Is this the start of the trade frenzy? What does this mean for my husband and I? Do I need to start packing our bags? Are we going to be spending our daughter's first Halloween together? Will we make it to game day, or was last week the last time my husband is putting on a Colts jersey?" Taylor stated in a video.
Despite the Colts' current struggling record of 2-5 this season, a trade involving Jonathan Taylor appears unlikely. The running back has demonstrated strong performance, leading the NFL with eight rushing touchdowns and ranking fifth in the league with 587 rushing yards through the team's first seven games.
