Colts Receiver Keenan Allen Faces Suspension After DUI Arrest

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen is facing a minimum three-game suspension from the NFL following his arrest in August on drunk-driving charges. Authorities charged the 13-year veteran with two misdemeanors, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI).
The incident occurred in downtown Indianapolis. According to police reports, Allen's vehicle was found parked in a no-parking zone, and officers detected a strong odor of alcohol upon approaching him. His blood alcohol level was reported to be .224, significantly exceeding Indiana's legal limit of .08.
The NFL's collective bargaining agreement mandates a three-game suspension for such offenses, with the possibility of an extended ban depending on the severity of intoxication. However, both the Colts and the NFL plan to allow the legal process to conclude before implementing disciplinary action.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that the team is permitting the legal process to unfold. The next scheduled court date is an attorney conference on October 26. The NFL is adopting a similar approach, waiting for the legal case to be resolved before taking further steps.
Despite the pending charges, the Colts do not expect Allen to miss playing time in the interim. General Manager Chris Ballard expressed support for Allen, stating, "I'm not going to comment on what happened, but what I'm going to tell you is good people make mistakes. He's a tremendous human being. Give him some grace, and he'll work through the process of the legal system."
Allen joined the Colts on a one-year deal with potential incentives. He made his debut with the team last week, recording six catches for 32 yards against the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts are scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
