Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson Charged with Marijuana Possession
Court records reveal a criminal misdemeanor charge following a traffic stop in Indiana.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a charge of marijuana possession stemming from a traffic stop on Oct. 12 in Carmel, Indiana, according to court records. The charge is a criminal misdemeanor.
Richardson was stopped by Carmel police because the license plate on his 2023 Dodge Charger did not match its expired registration. Officers reported detecting the odor of marijuana upon approaching the vehicle. According to law enforcement statements cited by FOX59, Richardson admitted to smoking marijuana in the car to avoid doing so in front of his children and that a small amount of the substance was present in the vehicle.
During the stop, Richardson was briefly placed in handcuffs as officers searched his vehicle. They found a small Mason jar containing a substance believed to be marijuana and an opened bag of THC-infused gummies. He was issued a citation.
Online records confirm the charge. Richardson's initial court date, scheduled for Dec. 9, was canceled, and a bench trial has been set for early next year.
The Colts organization acknowledged the situation, stating, "We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time."
The charge follows a week that also saw the firing of Colts general manager Chris Ballard. Richardson was selected by the Colts with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
