Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson Charged with Marijuana Possession
Richardson faces a January court date following a traffic stop where marijuana and THC gummies were found.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been charged with possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, on October 12. Richardson faces a bench trial scheduled for January 4, 2027.
During the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from Richardson's vehicle, a 2023 Dodge Charger. The vehicle also had an expired registration that had been assigned to a different car. Richardson admitted to smoking marijuana inside the car to avoid doing so in front of his children and informed the officers that a small amount of marijuana was present in the vehicle. A subsequent search by police uncovered a mason jar believed to contain marijuana and an open bag of THC gummies.
Richardson was issued a citation for the expired registration and agreed to appear in court. He was selected fourth overall by the Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft after playing three years at the University of Florida. He was named the team's starting quarterback in his rookie season but appeared in only four games due to injury. Richardson also missed games in 2024 due to injuries and drew attention for removing himself from a game, stating he "needed a breather."
