Colts Eyeing Trade Deadline Sell-Off, Jonathan Taylor a Top Asset

The Indianapolis Colts, currently sitting at 2-4 on the season, are reportedly preparing to be sellers at the NFL trade deadline. Among their most sought-after assets is star running back Jonathan Taylor, who has been the subject of significant trade speculation. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported that several NFL general managers have expressed interest in Taylor.

Teams that have reportedly considered or are considering trading for Taylor include the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. The Packers had previously explored a trade for Taylor in August 2023, seeking him along with wide receiver Christian Watson and additional compensation, though that deal did not materialize. Their interest could resurface as they look to potentially bring the former Wisconsin star back to Green Bay.

The potential departure of Taylor marks a significant shift for the Colts, especially given his recent contract extension. The seven-year veteran signed a two-year, $44 million deal during training camp, expressing his desire to retire with the team. Taylor is still owed the remainder of his nearly $7 million base salary for the current season, followed by $16 million next season and nearly $18 million in 2028.

Despite the trade rumors, Taylor has remained productive on the field this season, amassing 492 rushing yards and seven touchdowns through six games. He is currently averaging four yards per carry, even behind a struggling Colts offensive line.

The Colts' willingness to explore trades was further signaled after the team parted ways with general manager Chris Ballard. Beyond Taylor, other key players reportedly available for trade include defensive tackle Deforest Buckner and Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman Quentin Nelson.
