Colts Declare Defensive Tackle Adetomiwa Adebowore Off-Limits in Trade Discussions

The Indianapolis Colts have designated defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebowore as unavailable for trade, despite receiving inquiries from multiple teams. This decision comes after the Colts traded away two prominent players, Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, who were entering the final year of their contracts.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Colts informed two teams that Adebowore is not on the trading block. The team reportedly views the second-year player as a crucial component of their future roster as they navigate a rebuilding phase. The Colts are expected to work on extending Adebowore's contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent following the current season.

Adebowore was selected by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently in the midst of a breakout season, having recorded 17 tackles and three tackles for loss in seven games this year. This already matches his sack total of four from his rookie season, which spanned 17 games. Pro Football Focus has ranked Adebowore as the fourth-best defensive tackle among 126 qualified players.

While Adebowore has started only one game this season, the trade of fellow defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is anticipated to increase his playing time significantly.

"Now, I’ve got an opportunity to go play a little more," Adebowore told The Indianapolis Star. "I hope I take advantage of it."

In the wake of Buckner's departure, the Colts also signed veteran defensive tackle Kevin Givens from the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. Adebowore's next opportunity to demonstrate his increased role will be when the Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
