Colorado State Defensive Coordinator Out After Sideline Departure
Jim Mora relieved Tyson Summers of play-calling duties during a blowout loss, leading to Summers' exit from the program.
Colorado State defensive coordinator Tyson Summers is no longer with the program after head coach Jim Mora removed him from play-calling responsibilities during the team's 56-26 loss to Oregon State on Saturday. Mora confirmed Summers' departure after the game, stating that the former defensive coordinator "made the decision on his own to leave the field."
Summers was on the sideline at the beginning of the game, but his duties were reassigned after Oregon State took a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. Co-defensive coordinator Kenny McClendon assumed play-calling duties for the remainder of the contest. Despite the change, the Rams continued to struggle defensively, allowing Oregon State to build a 35-14 lead by halftime and ultimately secure a 30-point victory.
Mora, in his first year as head coach at Colorado State after previously coaching at UConn, had retained Summers as defensive coordinator after Summers served as interim head coach for the final five games of the 2025 season. The team's defensive performance has been a point of concern, with Colorado State also giving up 59 points in a loss to UTSA the previous week.
