Colorado Quarterback Julian Lewis Hospitalized After Practice Medical Emergency
The sophomore quarterback is recovering following an undisclosed incident at the team's facility.
University of Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis is recovering after being hospitalized due to a medical emergency sustained during practice on Wednesday.
Lewis's father announced the hospitalization on Thursday, stating that his son was recovering and appreciative of the support from his medical team, teammates, and fans. "Please respect Julian and the Lewis family's privacy. We will have no further comment at this time," his father wrote in a statement. Neither the university nor the football program have released a public statement.
Lewis, a sophomore, began the season as CU's starting quarterback and held the position for the first four games. He completed 61 of 95 passes for 733 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions, with one rushing touchdown during that span. Following struggles in road games against Northwestern and Baylor, he was replaced by junior Isaac Wilson.
Wilson has since started the last three games, but the Buffaloes have lost all of them, contributing to the team's overall record of 2-5 and an 0-4 standing in Big XII play. Head coach Deion Sanders had previously indicated a willingness to consider returning Lewis to the starting role if Wilson's performance did not improve.
The Buffaloes are scheduled to host Kansas State on Saturday.
