Colorado Quarterback Julian Lewis Hospitalized After Practice Incident

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis was hospitalized Wednesday following a medical emergency at the team's facility, his father announced Thursday.

Lewis is "recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support," T. Carlton Lewis stated on social media platform X. He requested privacy for Julian and the Lewis family, adding that there would be no further comment at this time. The university has not yet addressed the incident.

The sophomore quarterback started the first four games of the season for Colorado. His most recent appearance was in a 23-13 loss to Baylor on September 26. He was subsequently benched in favor of junior Isaac Wilson.

Colorado holds a 2-5 record this season. Isaac Wilson is 0-3 as a starter since taking over the quarterback position. Coach Deion Sanders indicated that a return to Lewis at quarterback was a possibility.

"That’s on him," Sanders told reporters Tuesday. "I don’t think you could find a player in this program — or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn’t want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks.

“If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. You can ask that gentleman [punter Damon Greaves] over there; I don’t play those games with kids. You’ve got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room. We’re there. We understand what happens.”

Lewis, 19, has completed 61 of 95 passes for 733 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions in his four starts this season. He also has one rushing touchdown.

Colorado is scheduled to host Kansas State on Saturday.
