Colorado Mom Charged After Allegedly Keeping Boyfriend's Decomposing Remains for Months

A Colorado woman is facing murder charges after allegedly keeping her boyfriend's dismembered and decomposing remains in her home for months. Sheldon "Shelly" Wilson, 62, was charged with murder after her daughter intervened and informed Colorado Springs police about the situation.

According to charging documents obtained by KOAA, Wilson ominously told police before the discovery, "You’re going to find out a lot more real soon, it’s bad... there’s no words for what you’re fixing to find out…"

Upon visiting Wilson's home, officers found plastic containers emitting a strong odor of decomposition. Inside were the dismembered remains of her boyfriend. Wilson had reportedly told neighbors that the man was visiting family out of state.

Investigators also discovered a mattress with dark staining outside the home, believed to be blood. When questioned by police, Wilson reportedly responded, "I’m scared I might have" killed him.

Police records indicate that officers had visited Wilson's home 18 times since December 2024 due to allegations that Wilson was abusing the man. Wilson was reportedly caring for the man after he was removed from hospice care following several strokes. Family members had previously reported to police in December that Wilson had called them more than 40 times, claiming she wanted to kill him.

Wilson allegedly admitted to investigators that she would become heavily intoxicated and assault the man, later waking to find him bloody, injured, and covered in sores. She stated she had committed violent acts against him at least ten times while under the influence of alcohol, noting that his condition prevented him from defending himself.

She reported finding the man unresponsive the day after his birthday, admitting she had been drinking and did not recall what happened. Wilson claimed she covered him with blankets and went to work. Upon her return, she confirmed he was dead. She then dismembered his body, placed the remains in plastic totes, and moved them upstairs due to the smell. Wilson stated she had been sleeping downstairs for months, citing nightmares.

When the man's family requested a welfare check on September 17, Wilson falsely informed police that he was staying with relatives in another state. Afterward, she contacted her two daughters to reveal the circumstances.

Following her surrender to authorities, Wilson was charged with second-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence. The El Paso County Coroner's Office is responsible for identifying the victim and determining the official cause and manner of death.
