Barry Morphew, who is free on a $3 million bond as he awaits trial for the alleged murder of his wife, was arrested Friday in Denver following a hit-and-run incident involving two other vehicles. Prosecutors stated that Morphew's trip to Denver International Airport on August 28, possibly to pick up his daughter, constitutes a violation of his bond conditions.
Under the terms of the bond set last year, Morphew was restricted to traveling from his southern Colorado home only for work and other limited circumstances. His attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Morphew is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to discuss his bond.
Morphew has pleaded not guilty in the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared on May 10, 2020, while on a bike ride in Chaffee County, Colorado. Her skeletal remains were discovered off a dirt road in southern Colorado in 2023. Charges against Barry Morphew in connection with her death were initially dropped but he was later re-arrested and charged again with first-degree murder.
Investigators reportedly found traces of a drug cocktail, used to tranquilize wildlife, in Suzanne Morphew's bone marrow. Prosecutors allege that Barry Morphew was the only individual in the area, besides wildlife officials, authorized to use such chemicals.
