Colorado High School Faces Suspension Amid Racism Allegations

Lutheran High School in Parker, Colorado, is facing potential suspension of its membership from the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) following allegations of racism during recent football games. The CHSAA has placed the school's athletic department on probation for at least 12 months, effective immediately, and warned of potential membership suspension.

The CHSAA stated it determined that "racist and discriminatory language and unacceptable behavior occurred at Lutheran athletic events." The association emphasized that "racism and discrimination have no place in our schools or at our events" and that member schools are accountable for the conduct of their participants and spectators.

The allegations stem from incidents involving students and parents from Sand Creek and Rampart High Schools during games played at Lutheran High School last month. In response to these allegations, two schools, Air Academy and Coronado High School, have opted to forfeit their scheduled games against Lutheran High School for the current season.

Lutheran High School has condemned racism and stated its commitment to fulfilling CHSAA's requirements. However, the school expressed disappointment that the CHSAA reached its decision before Lutheran's own investigation into the allegations was complete. In a letter to parents, Executive Director Dan Gehrke indicated that the school is finalizing its response and will share its findings and next steps publicly. He requested prayers for the students, families, coaches, and staff affected by the situation, as well as for all those impacted by the events.
