Colorado GOP Nominee Victor Marx Faces Scrutiny Over Resurfaced Violent Remarks

Victor Marx, the Republican nominee for Colorado governor, is facing renewed scrutiny following the resurfacing of a podcast recording in which he recounts grabbing his wife and slamming her into their front door early in their marriage, appearing to laugh during the recollection. The incident was described in a 2021 interview on The Protector Nation podcast.

According to the recording, Marx stated his wife had stopped martial arts training because she was married to a "black belt Marine," a comment that "infuriated" him. He then described the confrontation, saying, "I remember grabbing her, slamming her into our front door." He characterized the action as a "decent push," after which his wife fell against the door and began to cry.

Marx is currently running against Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser in a race that has been categorized as safely Democratic by prognosticators. The newly resurfaced remarks come amid broader criticism of Marx's past public statements detailing violent encounters.

In a video posted to his Facebook account, which has since been deleted, Marx addressed the accusations, calling them "absolute stupidity" and claiming critics were taking his words out of context to "impugn" his character. He had stated his intention to release the full, unedited recording of the podcast. In the deleted post, he wrote, "I have been accused of wife abuse and child abuse based on clips being circulated publicly. I rejected those accusations."

This is not the first time Marx's accounts of violence have drawn attention. In a 2020 interview, he described a separate incident where he allegedly threw his toddler son across a room after the child pushed his sister, an act he called a "disproportionate" reaction.

Marx has also spoken publicly about other physical confrontations, including punching a man he accused of abusing his daughter, and pulling a knife on a psychiatrist. At a 2023 Turning Point USA pastors summit, Marx stated, "I feel like God gave me a gift for violence, against a manifestation of evil."

Furthermore, Marx has made the extraordinary claim that, at the age of seven, his stepfather forced him to participate in the killing of a man. Marx has acknowledged that this childhood account cannot be independently verified, and no victim or criminal case has been publicly established from his statement.
