Colorado's Republican gubernatorial nominee, Victor Marx, claimed in a 2020 podcast episode that he "met Satan in person, through a person." Marx, a former Marine and founder of All Things Possible Ministries, described the alleged encounter during an episode of his podcast.
According to Marx's account, the incident occurred while he was praying for a girl at a high-security youth prison in Texas. He stated that the girl "started manifesting a demon" and that the experience was intense enough to cause other incarcerated girls to huddle in a corner. Marx described the entity as "horrible" and said that when he asked for its name, it responded, "I am Satan."
Marx is campaigning on issues of public safety, social conservatism, and the cost of living. His campaign has drawn attention, partly for his assembly of an all-Marine ticket, which he stated is intended to provide the "steely spines" necessary to counter a growing socialist movement. Marx is running against incumbent Attorney General Phil Weiser, a Democrat, in the race to succeed term-limited Governor Jared Polis.
The resurfaced podcast claims come as the Democratic Party's left wing has seen primary wins nationally, including in Colorado, where a democratic socialist candidate defeated a long-time incumbent representative. Marx has positioned himself and his running mate, retired Marine Col. George Markert, as political outsiders aiming to bring discipline and accountability to combat this trend.
