A two-year-old girl in Boulder, Colorado, was discovered alone and crying from a second-story balcony on the evening of July 28, according to police. Responding officers found drug paraphernalia, including marijuana, within the child's reach inside the apartment.
When officers arrived around 10:30 p.m., they were unable to access the apartment through the front door because the child was too young to open it. To reach the girl, officers had to climb onto the hood of their patrol car and scale a fence to get to the balcony. Bodycam footage captured the child telling an officer, "Don't break that," as he climbed over the fence.
Officers contacted the child's father, who was not publicly identified. He reportedly told authorities that he had left the residence to buy food while his daughter was asleep. When asked to return to the apartment, he refused.
Authorities then changed the child's diaper, dressed her, and took her to the police station. She remained there until her mother could be contacted, after which she was taken to her mother's home.
The father was arrested the following day outside a bar. Police reported that he was in possession of a large amount of cash and approximately 15 grams of cocaine at the time of his arrest. He reportedly told officers, "Y'all are f**king good at your job, man."
"We’re glad this sweet child wasn’t hurt, and we hope she only remembers the kindness of everyone who helped her this week," police said in a statement.
