Colorado Birthing Center Remains Open Amid Criminal Investigation Into Two Infant Deaths
Glamorous midwives are accused of a cover-up following infant fatalities at Tender Gifts, a trendy Colorado birthing center.
Tender Gifts Birth and Wellness Center in Fort Collins, Colorado, continues to operate despite an ongoing criminal investigation into the deaths of two infants. The center's owner and midwives are reportedly facing accusations of a cover-up following these tragic events.
Althea Hrdlichka, the owner and founder of Tender Gifts, has been a practicing midwife in Northern Colorado since 2016. She and midwife Brecklen Ables were arrested in September in connection with a months-long investigation into a newborn's death. Both have since been released on bond.
The investigation into the deaths reportedly began after the first infant fatality. Details surrounding the circumstances of the babies' deaths have not been fully disclosed. Amidst the unfolding situation, some wealthy clients of the birthing center have reportedly suggested a "witch hunt" against the facility.
Lindsey Dawn Mullen, a former patient who gave birth at Tender Gifts three years ago, has expressed reservations about the center. She stated that after over 40 hours of labor, she ultimately gave birth at a hospital, and she would not recommend the center to other mothers.
The birthing rooms at Tender Gifts are described as featuring amenities such as a large birthing tub and a queen-sized bed, with several women having reported positive birthing experiences at the center. However, the recent infant deaths and the ongoing criminal investigation have cast a shadow over its operations.
