Collin Sexton exhibits a striking duality, transforming from a quiet, polite individual off the court to an intensely competitive force during games. This stark contrast was evident following the Los Angeles Lakers' 103-87 win against the Clippers on Wednesday, where Sexton played a pivotal role.

During the game, a viral video captured Sexton's visibly altered demeanor on the court, with bulging eyes and a clenched jaw, a stark departure from his typically understated off-court persona. Sexton acknowledged this transformation when asked about it, chuckling as he explained his mindset.

"Honestly, I would say when I step between those lines, it’s us against them," Sexton stated. "I’m going to do whatever my team needs for me. I feel like I turn into a different person when it’s time to go. And I think my teammates know that, so they try to talk to me a little bit, but they know I’m in the zone and ready to go to war. And that’s how I look at it. Whenever I step between those lines, it’s war time."

Sexton contributed 21 points, four rebounds, and two assists in the victory, finishing with a game-high plus-minus rating of +23. This performance was particularly crucial as the Lakers were playing without two starters, Luka Doncic (back tightness) and Ziaire Williams (left foot soreness).

The Lakers acquired Sexton in July on a two-year, $19 million deal, anticipating his ability to serve as a secondary ball-handler and provide scoring off the bench. Across eight seasons with previous teams, he has averaged 18.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.

Teammates and coaches have noted his impact. Austin Reaves has described Sexton as a defensive "pest," and Lakers coach JJ Redick characterized him as "intense." Redick commented on Sexton's focus, noting, "Sometimes it’s hard to get his attention, you know, because he gets locked in, he gets in the zone. I love the competitive fire."
