Collin Gosselin, one of the eight children featured on TLC's "Jon and Kate Plus 8," has publicly challenged his mother, Kate Gosselin, to undergo a lie detector test regarding his allegations of childhood abuse. Collin Gosselin stated in a YouTube interview that he wants his mother to address his claims that she confined him with zip ties in a basement.
"Mom, if you’re listening to this, we would ask about the zip ties," Collin Gosselin said in an interview posted Saturday. He described his mother as maintaining a "facade to the media" and expressed his desire to ask her direct questions, asserting he has "nothing to hide."
Collin Gosselin alleged in an interview with The Sun earlier in 2024 that as a child, his mother secured his hands and feet with zip ties and locked him in a basement room. He detailed that this room, built in the unfinished portion of the basement, was equipped with cameras and locked from the outside. He stated Kate Gosselin would place him in this room, bolt the door, turn off the lights, and leave him there with the cameras watching.
Lie detector tests measure physiological responses to questioning and are generally not considered fully reliable or admissible in legal proceedings.
HuffPost has reached out to Kate Gosselin's manager for comment.
Collin Gosselin's memoir, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood," is scheduled for release on Oct. 13. The book is expected to detail his upbringing.
This public challenge follows years of allegations from Collin Gosselin concerning his treatment. In 2023, Kate Gosselin stated in a message to People that Collin had received "multiple psychiatric diagnoses" due to his "unpredictable and violent behavior." Previously, she had stated that Collin had "special needs" and was hospitalized at age 12.
Kate and Jon Gosselin divorced in 2009. Their reality show continued as "Kate Plus 8" until 2017. Since the show's conclusion, Kate Gosselin has participated in other television programs, including "Dancing With the Stars" and "Celebrity Apprentice." She joined TikTok in late 2025, where she shares updates about her dogs and her work as a nurse.
