Bryn Waite, a 26-year-old former college soccer player, was found dead on Wednesday morning after her body washed ashore at La Jolla Shores Beach in San Diego, California. A bystander discovered Waite floating in the water and alerted authorities. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident. A report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office classified the case as 'Non Homicide,' but the cause of death has not yet been released.
Waite, who was originally from Anchorage, Alaska, played Division 2 women's soccer at Central Washington University from 2018 to 2019. Friends described her as a "beautiful spirit" who was "incredibly sweet, genuinely kind" and cared deeply for others. She also loved animals and the beach, according to one friend.
Her Instagram page indicated that Waite had recently become engaged. She shared photos with her fiancé on June 15, showing off a large blue stone engagement ring. A friend noted that Waite's light touched many lives and expressed prayers for her fiancé and loved ones navigating this "heartbreaking loss."
Social media posts suggest Waite enjoyed traveling, music, and spending time with friends. She had recently attended the San Diego County Fair and shared photos of scenic mountain views. Just a week before her death, she posted an image with the caption "It only gets better."
La Jolla Shores Beach, where Waite was found, was recently named the number one beach in the U.S. by TripAdvisor. The location is known for its coastal views and clear waters.
