College Football Player Injures Fan After Frustratedly Launching Helmet

During a Saturday game, University of North Carolina defensive back Kaleb Cost sustained an injury that led to him inadvertently hitting a fan with his helmet. The incident occurred in the first quarter as Cost defended a pass near the end zone.

Cost collided with the concrete wall behind the end zone, resulting in an injury. In visible frustration, he removed his helmet and threw it on the turf. The helmet bounced and then flew into the stands, striking a female fan in the front row, according to reports. Medical staff attended to the fan, who was then helped from her seat.

Cost, a senior, was ruled out for the remainder of the game following his collision with the wall. He has been a significant contributor to the Tar Heels since joining in 2023, recording 91 solo tackles and 38 assisted tackles, along with three interceptions and 14 passes defensed.

Despite losing Cost, the University of North Carolina secured a 21-17 upset victory over No. 25 Pittsburgh. This marked the first win against a ranked opponent since coach Bill Belichick took charge of the team last year. The Tar Heels' record this season is now 3-2, an improvement from last year's 4-8 record. "Gutsy performance. Kept battling against a good football team," Belichick stated after the game. "We just kept hanging in there. We made a couple big plays, and they made a couple too. They're a good football team."
