College Football AP Top 25 Poll Sees Major Shifts After Week 8 Upsets
Miami holds the No. 1 spot, while BYU drops and Texas climbs in the latest rankings following several top-10 team losses.
Week 8 of the college football season saw significant movement in the AP Top 25 Poll, with three top-10 teams falling on the road. Miami (FL) maintained its No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive week, securing 59 first-place votes. Ohio State received 10 first-place votes, and Utah earned one.
The poll experienced considerable shuffling, particularly outside the top rankings. The BYU Cougars dropped six spots to No. 8 after an overtime loss to UCF. Conversely, the Texas Longhorns surged eight places to No. 11 following their victory over Ole Miss. Utah, remaining undefeated at 7-0, climbed to No. 6 after defeating Houston. This win sets up a significant matchup against Cincinnati, which handed Texas Tech an upset loss.
The Big Ten and the SEC each have three teams ranked within the top 10. Unexpectedly, UCLA and Kentucky now sit at No. 7 and No. 9, respectively, with five weeks remaining in the regular season.
Notable upcoming matchups include No. 3 Georgia against No. 17 Florida in Atlanta, No. 13 Texas Tech hosting No. 22 Arizona, No. 25 Wisconsin traveling to Iowa, and No. 5 Notre Dame facing Navy.
