Singer and television personality Cody Simpson has undergone surgery to address a serious hemorrhage on his vocal cords. His sister, Alli Simpson, shared the update, stating that the procedure took place on Thursday.
Alli Simpson revealed on "The Morning Show" that her brother was diagnosed with a hemorrhage on two vocal cords. "Everything's happened to him all at once," she said. "He was full steam ahead on his album, and then he found out that he'd haemorrhaged on two vocal cords. So he has to get surgery. He's actually going into surgery tonight for that."
Despite the health setback, Cody Simpson has continued to work professionally. His sister mentioned he recently filmed a music video, though he opted out of dancing due to a dislocated knee sustained during rehearsals.
"He was thinking on his feet, except he wasn't on his feet," Alli Simpson commented. "He still managed to get the song in the video done... it's amazing. He's made the best of a bad experience."
Following the surgery, Cody Simpson posted a photo from the hospital, assuring fans he was recovering. "Onto my last stint of vocal rest for a few weeks now before I start building this voice back," he wrote on social media.
In May, Simpson first announced he was stepping away from his singing career due to the vocal cord issue. He explained on Instagram that the hemorrhage was discovered after he pushed through a sinus infection while working in the studio. "Assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing," he stated.
The vocal cord issue has impacted his career, leading to canceled promotional appearances and a pause on new music. Simpson had been prescribed weeks of vocal rest in an attempt to avoid surgery, which requires a longer recovery.
Simpson is currently working as a lyricist and writing melodies on his guitar while in vocal rest, describing the situation as a "realignment for the long-term good."
