Cody Rhodes Re-Signs with WWE, Plans to Retire with Company
Professional wrestler Cody Rhodes announced his re-signing with WWE and stated his intention to conclude his wrestling career with the company.
Cody Rhodes has re-signed with WWE, and he plans to retire from professional wrestling with the company. Rhodes, who was a co-founder of All Elite Wrestling, made the announcement on the "Flagrant" podcast with comedian Andrew Schulz.
During the interview, Rhodes was asked about his future and potential retirement plans. "Forgive me if this is breaking news and please edit it if I’m not allowed to share it, which is fine, I just re-signed with WWE. So, I’ll end my wrestling career (there)," Rhodes stated.
He also indicated that this new contract would allow him to pursue other projects, including film. "We’re now able to go do this stuff (films). So, say I do have another project. Say, I got two other projects, whatever it may be, I’m able to take a step away and I’m able to collaborate with WWE and I’m able to come back home," he added.
Rhodes, the son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, began his WWE career in 2006, working in Ohio Valley Wrestling before being called up to the main roster in 2007. After approximately a decade with the company, he departed and built his reputation in independent promotions, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and was instrumental in the formation of AEW.
Rhodes made a notable return to WWE at WrestleMania 38. Since then, he has become one of the top stars in professional wrestling, culminating in winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. He has held the title multiple times since that victory.
Currently, Rhodes is involved in a storyline with Randy Orton. Orton recently impacted Rhodes' chances in a Money in the Bank ladder match on "Friday Night SmackDown" and previously interfered in a title match at SummerSlam.
