Cocaine Use Surges Among University Students, Investigation Finds

An investigation has uncovered a significant rise in cocaine use among university students, particularly during freshers' week, with the drug reportedly becoming more accessible and affordable. The probe highlights how potent, "premium" cocaine is becoming prevalent on campuses across the UK, leading to concerning incidents.

One parent, identified as Fiona, recounted a disturbing FaceTime call from her 18-year-old daughter, Zoe, at 2 a.m. Fiona described seeing her daughter and her new boyfriend, Leo, during the call from a club. "Her pupils were huge and black, her jaw was moving strangely and she was tripping over her words," Fiona stated. "After just a few seconds, it was clear to me she was high on cocaine."

A study conducted by Loughborough University, which surveyed students at 54 institutions, found that nearly a quarter of students (24 percent) reported using cocaine. This suggests a widespread issue that extends beyond isolated incidents.

The accessibility and price point of cocaine appear to be key factors contributing to its increased use. The investigation suggests that the drug is being marketed as a "premium" product, potentially making it more appealing to young adults. The combination of availability and perceived quality is creating a dangerous environment for students at the start of their university careers.
