The family of U.S. Coast Guard officer Connor Scott Overstreet, 29, is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in his death. Overstreet was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Bryn Mawr-Skyway, Washington, around 12:40 a.m. on August 23.
Deputies from the King County Sheriff's Office found Overstreet with a gunshot wound to the chest and attempted to provide aid, but he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide and have asked residents in the area to check surveillance and dash cameras for any vehicles or individuals captured between 12:30 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. on the morning of the shooting.
Overstreet, an active-duty lieutenant at Coast Guard Air Station Ventura, is survived by his wife, Madeline, and his parents, Brennan and Shea Overstreet, and his sister Shea.
"All Connor wanted to do was save lives by flying for the Coast Guard. His loss is a tragedy felt by countless people. He was truly the best of us," Madeline Overstreet said in a statement to Fox 13. "We plead with you to help us find answers, justice and peace for Connor and all who loved him so deeply."
His father, Brennan Overstreet, echoed the plea, stating, "Nothing can bring our son back, but we have increased the reward for information in hopes to bring us answers in this unimaginable tragedy. Our family is devastated by the senseless loss of Connor. He brought joy, love and kindness to all who knew him, and the world is a darker place without him in it."
The family has also established an online fundraiser, which has raised over $57,000 as of Saturday night, to further increase the reward and help alleviate the financial burden incurred by the family. Any remaining funds will be donated to a charitable organization Overstreet supported.
The U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area confirmed Overstreet's death, stating, "The Coast Guard is deeply saddened to confirm the death of Lt Connor Overstreet, an active-duty member at Coast Guard Air Station Ventura, following an incident in the Seattle area. We extend our deepest condolences to the member's family, friends and shipmates during this tragic time."
Overstreet's remains were returned to Air Station Ventura on Friday with full honors. A memorial service is scheduled for September 3.
