Coast Guard Finds Debris From Missing Boston-Bound Plane Off Nantucket
Six people were aboard the Gulfstream G100 twinjet that disappeared from radar early Saturday.
Debris from a medical transport plane that vanished early Saturday off the coast of Nantucket has been discovered by the U.S. Coast Guard, officials confirmed.
Crews from the Boston-based Coast Guard cutter William Sparling were actively searching the waters off Massachusetts for parts of the downed aircraft. The U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed the discovery on Saturday evening.
Six individuals were on board the Gulfstream G100 twinjet, which was en route from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda to Boston Logan International Airport. The plane lost contact with Federal Aviation Administration radar shortly before its scheduled 1:25 a.m. landing.
Coast Guard Base Boston was scheduled to hold a press conference Sunday morning to provide further updates on the search and rescue efforts. The spokesperson indicated that a full investigation would likely be led by either the National Transportation Safety Board or its Canadian counterpart, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
