Co-hosts on 'The View' Agree Impeaching Trump Would Be Ineffective for Democrats
Panelists echoed Kamala Harris' sentiment that impeachment is not a good use of resources if Democrats regain control of Congress.
Co-hosts of the television show "The View" expressed agreement with former Vice President Kamala Harris' stance that impeaching former President Donald Trump would not be a productive endeavor should Democrats reclaim the majority in Congress. Harris had previously stated that impeachment would not be an effective use of the party's time and resources.
"I think that going on in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea," Harris said on "The Parnas Perspective" podcast. "Because we have limited resources, and I think the energy and the resources need to be put into accountability, need to be put into investigations. And that's where the time should be spent."
Following a clip of Harris' remarks, "The View" co-hosts shared their views. Sunny Hostin suggested that impeachment should not be on the agenda, pointing to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' plan for the first 100 days, which includes measures like tax credits and undoing unpopular Trump policies. Hostin noted that Democrats have a plan that may not involve impeaching Trump.
Ana Navarro emphasized the need for Democrats to be realistic about what is achievable and to focus on getting out the vote in the upcoming elections. She stated that even with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate, legislation requires presidential signature or a veto-proof majority, which she believes would be difficult to achieve. "I'm completely against impeachment," Navarro said, adding that there are "100 other ways to hold Donald Trump and his administration accountable."
Joy Behar drew a parallel to former President Richard Nixon, suggesting that without the necessary votes in the Senate for conviction, impeachment would be pointless.
Sara Haines proposed that Democrats could capitalize on the dissatisfaction of some of Trump's former supporters who feel he broke campaign promises. She argued that a Democratic Congress should focus on delivering on their own promises and showing immediate action to address the concerns of the people who elected them, even if legislation faces presidential opposition.
Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed that impeachment should not be the focus, citing the cost of impeachment trials and investigations. She suggested that a Democratic Congress could pursue actions beneficial to all Americans, such as repealing Trump's tariffs or winding down the war in Iran, which could potentially garner Republican support and lower fuel prices.
Earlier in the month, Democratic strategist James Carville had also advised against impeaching Trump if the party gained control of Congress.
Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine told Fox News Digital that neither the Senate's political calculations nor the broader public sentiment supports impeachment. He stated that voters are concerned about the economy, tariffs, healthcare, the war in Iran, and perceived corruption, feeling that the president is not focused on their issues. Turrentine advised focusing on solving people's problems and providing oversight, warning that a focus on "revenge and score settling" could lead Democrats back to the minority.
