CNN's Erin Burnett Suggests Trump is Preparing to Challenge 2026 Midterm Results
The anchor pointed to Trump's past remarks and recent online rhetoric as indicators of a potential strategy to question election integrity.
CNN anchor Erin Burnett suggested on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump is laying the groundwork to question the results of the upcoming 2026 midterm elections should Republicans face significant losses. Burnett highlighted Trump's response when asked if he would "respect the results" of the 2026 midterms, to which he replied, "I will if they’re honest elections."
Burnett characterized this statement as a "qualifier," noting that it remains unclear what Trump would consider an "honest election," given that the United States has established systems for conducting elections.
Her comments followed a report from The Washington Post indicating that nearly 600 prominent right-wing social media accounts and other online media outlets have published over 7,000 statements questioning election integrity in the current year. Burnett observed that this online activity often echoes Trump's rhetoric, citing his recent warning to "be careful of the voter fraud."
