A segment designed for viewer feedback on CNN's NewsNight took an unexpected turn when a viewer submitted a personal request for panelist Ashley Allison's phone number. The moment, which occurred during the show's closing minutes on Monday, generated laughter from the panel and host Abby Phillip.
Phillip introduced the new segment, stating, "You at home!" before reading viewer observations. After one comment about potential legal reforms following Donald Trump's presidency, Phillip read the second part: "Also, I would love to get Ashley's digits."
The request prompted an immediate reaction from Allison, who appeared visibly surprised and laughed. Other panelists, including Charles Blow and Emily Austin, also reacted with amusement.
"OK," Allison said tentatively after the initial burst of laughter. Austin, described as a pro-Trump podcaster, called the first comment "period," a slang term signifying a definitive statement. Blow let out a prolonged laugh, while Phillip also struggled to maintain composure.
Phillip addressed Allison directly, joking, "So, Ashley, a viewer shooting a shot for you tonight." Allison responded with a quip, "My DMs are open!" before quickly clarifying, "I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking."
The show concluded shortly after the exchange. Allison, a Democratic strategist, joined CNN in 2021 after serving as a senior staffer for the Biden-Harris campaign.
