CNN anchor John King directly attributed the Republican Party's underwhelming performance in the midterm elections to former President Donald Trump, countering Trump's own claims that he was not to blame.

Trump had stated on Truth Social that he would analyze the results and explain why each candidate won or lost, suggesting that if he had been on the ballot, Republicans would have secured more victories. He also indicated he would become a "political pundit" to dissect the outcomes.

King, however, used CNN's election map to illustrate his point. He highlighted numerous instances where Trump had campaigned for candidates, urging voters to "Vote like I’m on the ballot." King then showed that in many of these areas, particularly those Trump had won by double digits, his endorsed candidates ultimately lost.

"He went to states he won by double digits and said, ‘Vote like I’m on the ballot,’” King stated. “Well, they did. They did in Trump country, in rural America, in places where he had won convincingly. People said ‘Enough.’”

King suggested that voters had grown weary of issues like high fuel prices, which he linked to policies supported by Trump, and other concerns that led to dissatisfaction. The CNN segment presented a visual argument that the candidates Trump championed underperformed, even in areas considered strongholds for the former president. Trump, conversely, has avoided taking responsibility for the election outcomes, instead seeking to analyze the results from his own perspective.
