Clemson Lineman Taken to Hospital After Scary Collision
Clemson offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon was stretchered off the field and transported to a hospital following a helmet-to-helmet collision during Saturday's game against Florida State.
During the second quarter of Clemson's matchup against Florida State on Saturday, offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon sustained a head-to-head collision with a Florida State defender, leading to a pause in play.
Medical personnel from both teams attended to Thurmon, and the game was delayed for 11 minutes. ESPN opted not to show a replay of the incident.
Broadcaster Wes Durham described the play as a "head-on play with the linebacker for Florida State toward the end of the run," noting significant concern for Thurmon. He added that medical staff from both universities provided care with "utmost caution."
As Thurmon was being stretchered off the field, he gave a thumbs-up to the crowd. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told the ACC Network at halftime that Thurmon was responsive and moving, though he could not provide further details at that time.
Thurmon was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, accompanied by his mother. Sideline reporter Madison Fitzpatrick stated that Thurmon's mother was with him and holding his hand.
Details regarding the specifics of Thurmon's injury remain unclear. Thurmon, originally from Rienzi, Mississippi, is in his third season with the Tigers. This is the second injury Thurmon has sustained this season; he was previously injured during Clemson's game against Cal on September 25.
