Claudia Winkleman's career is reportedly at a peak following her departure from "Strictly Come Dancing," with recent decisions indicating a strong professional position. In contrast, her former "Strictly" co-presenter, Tess Daly, is navigating a series of personal and professional difficulties.
Winkleman recently opted out of a second series of her BBC1 chat show, "The Claudia Winkleman Show," a move that sources suggest highlights her ability to choose projects she genuinely enjoys. "She only does the shows she wants to do, and she didn’t enjoy this high-profile plum of a project, so that was that," a source told the Daily Mail. Winkleman herself explained the decision by stating, "Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realised I was just too nervous to enjoy it." This decision comes after a successful transition from "Strictly," which she left in October. Her subsequent work includes presenting Crufts on Channel 4 and continuing with "The Traitors."
Jeff Foulser, chair of Sunset and Vine, which hired Winkleman for Crufts, praised her ability to engage guests, noting her considerable achievement in launching her own chat show. David Sumnall, who made a documentary about Winkleman, commented on her refreshing honesty, stating, "The reason people like her is because she is so human: admitting she wasn’t enjoying it is something few would do, and is so refreshing."
Winkleman, known for her distinctive style and sharp wit, began her television career in the 1990s as a reporter for the BBC travel series "Holiday." Early roles included work on "Liquid News" and the gameshow "Talking Telephone Numbers." She later presented "The Film Show" and "It Takes Two," the "Strictly" companion program, before co-hosting the main show in 2010.
Contrasting Fortunes
Meanwhile, Tess Daly, who joined "Strictly Come Dancing" in its first series in 2004, has reportedly faced a more challenging period. While Winkleman has seen her career flourish, Daly is said to be considering an offer for a show on Magic Radio and dealing with losses at her bikini firm, Naia Beach. Daly's tenure on "Strictly" saw her often positioned as the "straight woman" to presenters like Bruce Forsyth, a role that some viewers found repetitive, leading to her being nicknamed "the Tess-bot" on fan sites.
In addition to professional hurdles, Daly's marriage to DJ Vernon Kay recently ended. The couple announced their split in May, stating it was "with a deep sense of care and respect for one another." While they have remained friends and are reportedly handling their divorce amicably, Winkleman remains married to film producer Kris Thykier.
Winkleman's career trajectory, marked by a series of successful roles and strategic career choices, stands in contrast to Daly's current circumstances, highlighting the divergent paths of the two long-time "Strictly" co-presenters.
