Clancy Defense Attorney Rebuffs Juror's Lawyer Amid Mistrial Fallout

Lindsay Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, has responded sharply to the attorney representing a holdout juror in the case, dismissing his counterpart's criticisms as "histrionic" and unfounded.

Reddington's remarks were a direct counter to statements made by Edward Paltzik, the attorney for Michael Desronvil, the juror who reportedly prevented a unanimous verdict. Paltzik had accused Reddington of filing "Looney Tunes" motions that he claimed were an "attack on the U.S. Constitution" and a threat to the Sixth Amendment's guarantee of due process.

"I think Ed ought to learn how to go into the courtroom and articulate his position rather than be a histrionic individual that's just mouthing off for the media," Reddington told Fox News Digital. He defended his legal actions, stating, "Every motion that has been filed is legitimate. It's all based on sound, law, facts, jury questions, and I'm doing what I should do, representing Lindsay."

Paltzik, who has been identified as a criminal defense attorney with nearly 20 years of experience, had also been critical of Reddington's characterization of Desronvil as an "obstructionist juror." Paltzik told Fox News Digital, "I would never criticize a juror. And I would never file a post-trial motion to investigate the juror." He advised Reddington to "stop whining and go prepare for a retrial. Stop complaining. You only got 11, you needed 12."

Reddington also took issue with Paltzik's public commentary, including remarks Paltzik made to a YouTuber where he reportedly called Clancy a "demon." Reddington stated, "Ed, why don't you just shut up? Really, you foul individual."

The legal skirmish follows a mistrial declared on September 4 after the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. Clancy is accused of strangling her three young children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. The defense has argued that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible for her actions.

While 11 jurors reportedly leaned towards a verdict of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, Desronvil maintained that Clancy was guilty of murder. This deadlock led Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial.

Reddington has filed a motion seeking a "limited inquiry" into Desronvil, requesting background information, potential criminal history, phone records, and surveillance video. Another attorney for Clancy, Martin Weinberg, has filed a separate motion arguing for dismissal of charges on double jeopardy grounds. Weinberg's motion contends that the judge improperly declared a mistrial without fully investigating claims that Desronvil ignored instructions on reasonable doubt.

Clancy is scheduled for a hearing on defense motions, and prosecutors are expected to announce their intentions regarding a potential retrial.
