A circus performer who was struck in the neck by a crossbow bolt during a stunt at the Orange County Fair in Wallkill, New York, has been identified as part of an act called 'Duo Darwin.' Edwin Cuervo Rangel, 38, was airlifted to a hospital and is in stable condition.
The incident took place on Friday evening. The act, 'Duo Darwin,' features performers engaging in trick shots with crossbows, often firing backward or in low-light conditions, according to videos of their performances. The stunts typically involve shooting targets or balloons positioned near assistants.
During the performance on Friday, Rangel was positioned near the target as archer Ana Daza Tavera, 42, took her shot. The crossbow bolt struck Rangel in the neck. Ringmaster Benjamin Jackson of Circus Murcia confirmed the incident, stating that the bolt "caught him in his neck." Rangel was transported from the fairgrounds to a hospital for treatment.
Alexander Murcia, owner of Circus Murcia, confirmed the incident and stated that Rangel is expected to make a full recovery. He also expressed appreciation for the first responders and medical team involved. The police have stated that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Rangel has a history of performing crossbow stunts for several years, often with his wife, Beverly, who has also participated in the act. The troupe, 'Duo Darwin,' has performed various dangerous stunts across the country.
