Cindy Crawford Recalled the Pain of Losing a Child Years Before Son Presley's Death
The supermodel reflected on her mother's experience with grief in a 2010 interview.
Cindy Crawford spoke about the profound grief of losing a child in a 2010 interview, more than a decade before her son Presley Gerber's death.
In the interview with the Mirror, Crawford discussed her own childhood and how her mother, Jennifer Sue Crawford-Moluf, navigated the early death of her younger brother, Jeffrey, who died from leukemia at a young age. Crawford recalled how her mother's resilience in the face of this tragedy impacted her.
"Growing up, I sometimes felt she should have been angry or outraged and she wasn’t," Crawford said. "She had a son that died. My dad [John Crawford] had an affair and they divorce. Those were painful things for her but they didn’t take away from her light as a person."
Crawford, who is now a mother herself, expressed a deep appreciation for her mother's perspective. "Now I’m a mom myself I’ve really come to appreciate her outlook on life. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child."
Her brother Jeffrey passed away at the age of 4, two years after his leukemia diagnosis. Crawford was 60 at the time of the interview.
Presley Gerber died on a Sunday at age 27, having reportedly checked into a rehabilitation facility for treatment the same weekend. While an official cause of death has not been released, 911 audio obtained by Page Six indicated that he experienced cardiac arrest and a suspected overdose. Sources told Page Six that Crawford was "devastated" and "inconsolable" and "beyond gutted" by her son's death, describing the family as "tight-knit."
