A man clad in a Chucky doll mask allegedly terrorized six individuals in Philadelphia during a 15-minute period early Wednesday morning, including asking a female jogger if she was prepared to die. Police are actively searching for the suspect, described as a Black male between 16 and 20 years old.
The incidents began shortly after 5:20 a.m. when the suspect entered a Dunkin Donuts store wearing the distinctive mask. He was refused service due to erratic behavior, according to Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith. The suspect then allegedly proceeded to approach and harass people in nearby locations, often while filming the encounters.
One encounter involved a man wearing a reflective vest, whom the suspect allegedly uttered something to before chasing him. Shortly after, the suspect confronted a female jogger, holding a cell phone in front of her and repeatedly asking, "Are you ready to die?" The jogger, startled, fled and sustained a leg injury. She reported the incident to the police.
"Clearly she's not ready to die, so she takes off," Smith stated, adding that the jogger was "screaming for help."
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including terroristic threats, harassment, assault, reckless endangerment, and intimidation. Captain Smith also indicated that a weapons charge would be filed, noting the suspect kept his right arm behind his back when making the threat to the jogger, despite no weapon being visible on surveillance footage.
A witness, identified as Jameka, attempted to warn the jogger and confronted the masked individual herself, kicking him in the chest. She described the suspect as disoriented and without a clear objective.
Philadelphia police are intensifying efforts to locate the individual. "Trust me when I tell you this… we’re not going to do our darnedest to try and locate this individual? You bet we are," Smith said.
Residents expressed their unease. "It's really unsettling just trying to get to work and have a kid like this actively terrorizing women," said coffee shop worker Kate Egan. "I really hope he is caught."
