Chuck Lorre Recounts Charlie Sheen's 'Tiger Blood' Meltdown, Eyebrows Singed

Chuck Lorre, the creator of the sitcom "Two and a Half Men," has detailed the infamous 2011 meltdown of star Charlie Sheen, which led to Sheen's firing from the show. Lorre, 73, recounted the events on The Joe Rogan Experience, describing Sheen's highly publicized spiral during the eighth season of the series.

At the height of the show's success, with "Two and a Half Men" averaging approximately 14.7 million viewers, Lorre admitted to having a "blind spot" and "forcefully oblivious" approach due to the show's popularity. He explained that he wanted to believe everything was going to be alright.

Incident with a BIC Lighter

Lorre recalled a moment when Sheen's manager informed him that the actor could not attend rehearsal because his "BIC lighter blew up and he has no eyebrows." Lorre expressed his disbelief, stating, "I know BIC lighters they don't blow up."

Sheen, then at the peak of his career as the highest-paid actor on television, was experiencing substance abuse and mental health issues following his divorce from Brooke Mueller. During this period, he gave a series of widely publicized interviews, using phrases like "winning," "tiger blood," and "Adonis DNA." The actor's demeanor in these interviews was often described as hyper, unhinged, and scattered.

Firing and Aftermath

Sheen demanded a higher salary and engaged in public disputes with network executives, including Lorre and Les Moonves. He was ultimately fired from "Two and a Half Men" in March 2011 and replaced by Ashton Kutcher. The public was not aware at the time that Sheen had been diagnosed with HIV in 2011, a fact he revealed in 2015. He stated that he had spent nearly $10 million to keep his diagnosis secret since 2011.

Lorre continued: 'His BIC lighter blew up and he has no eyebrows. Now I'm somewhat naive to some of this stuff but I know BIC lighters they don't blow up'

Sheen's struggles with substance abuse were not new; he had faced previous arrests on drug and assault charges and had overdosed on cocaine in 1998, suffering a stroke. He had also attended rehab multiple times.

Following his dismissal from "Two and a Half Men," Sheen embarked on a series of sold-out one-man shows. He later starred in the FX series "Anger Management" for two seasons. In 2023, a Netflix documentary miniseries, "AKA Charlie Sheen," explored his rise to fame and personal struggles.

The 73-year-old showrunner appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience on Tuesday as he talked candidly about Sheen's highly-publicized 2011 meltdown where he coined terms like 'winning', 'tiger blood', and 'Adonis DNA'

Lorre went on to create other successful CBS series, including "The Big Bang Theory" and its spin-off "Young Sheldon."
