Christopher Lloyd Celebrates 88th Birthday with 'Back to the Future' Tribute

Christopher Lloyd marked his 88th birthday on Thursday by referencing a famous line from his iconic role as Emmett "Doc" Brown in the "Back to the Future" film series.

Lloyd took to social media to share his thoughts on turning 88, writing, "Today I turn 88…I’ve seen some serious s–t. The most serious of it all is love. I love my family, my friends, and my wonderful fans. The power of love remains.” This sentiment echoes a memorable quote from the 1985 film, where his character tells Marty McFly, "If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re going to see some serious s–t.”

His "Back to the Future" co-star, Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly, also honored Lloyd with a birthday message on Instagram. Fox posted a photo of the two actors with the caption, “Great Scott, you’re 88! That’s some serious s–t, love you! 😎.”

Lloyd responded in the comments, “We truly are timeless. Love you friend.” The camaraderie between the two actors deepened during the filming of "Back to the Future Part III" in 1990.

In a 2023 interview with Variety, Fox described Lloyd as an "enigmatic" and "great guy," noting that their connection grew during the production of the third film. Fox expressed admiration for Lloyd's depth as an actor, stating, "This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He’s full of surprises.”

Lloyd's memoir, "In My Own Time," is scheduled for release the following week.
