Christmas Adverts Kick Off Festive Season with Star Power and Beloved Characters

The annual competition for the most heartwarming Christmas advert has begun, with retailers like Sainsbury's, Tesco, and The Perfume Shop releasing their festive campaigns.

Sainsbury's is bringing back Roald Dahl's BFG for the third consecutive year. The two-minute commercial, titled 'Nobody Misses Out,' follows a Sainsbury's colleague named Annie on a mission to deliver festive treats to her giant friend, who has caught a cold just before Christmas. Their journey into 'Giant Country' is fraught with challenges, including encounters with a Greedy Giant and a Squizzly Scotch-Hopper. The advert culminates with Annie, the BFG, and Fred enjoying a festive feast, emphasizing the message that 'nobody should miss Christmas.'

Tesco's campaign, 'The Wrong Address,' features a three-minute film starring Irish comedian Roisin Conaty as a Tesco delivery driver named Polly and 'Motherland' actress Anna Maxwell Martin as her old school friend, Lizzie. The story unfolds when Lizzie's Christmas food shop is accidentally delivered to her former address, hundreds of miles away. Polly offers to help, leading to an unexpected road trip that rekindles their friendship and highlights themes of kindness and going the extra mile.

The Perfume Shop's 90-second black and white advert, 'Let Love Last,' adopts a more emotional tone. It portrays a family preparing for their first Christmas without their father. The narrative focuses on how perfume can preserve memories, as the older son recreates his father's tradition of gifting his mother the same fragrance every Christmas. The advert concludes with a touching family embrace, emphasizing the enduring connection to loved ones. The Perfume Shop's 90-second black and white film follows a family-of-three preparing for their first Christmas without their father, as his absence is felt in the small traditions they once shared

These campaigns mark the early start to the holiday advertising season, with major retailers like John Lewis, Waitrose, and M&S expected to release their own festive commercials soon.
