Christine McGuinness has shared that she feels "more myself" since publicly coming out as bisexual. The television personality revealed that this personal journey has coincided with her writing an erotic novel, which she likens to '50 Shades of Gay.'
McGuinness told The Times that embracing her sexuality has brought about a sense of greater comfort and confidence. "I feel safer, I feel more comfortable, I feel more attractive, I feel sexier — everything I prefer with women. Because I feel more myself," she stated. She also noted receiving messages from other mothers who are navigating similar life changes after separating from their husbands.
While her forthcoming book is a work of fiction, McGuinness has drawn inspiration from her personal experiences. She described a process of jotting down notes, sometimes immediately after intimate encounters, to capture her thoughts and feelings. "I might have just had sex with someone and I’ll scribble bits… I didn’t want to forget what I was thinking," she explained.
Despite their divorce four years ago, McGuinness and her ex-husband, Paddy McGuinness, continue to reside in the same home in Cheshire. They share three children, twins Penelope and Leo, both 11, and Felicity, 8, all of whom have autism. The decision to live together is primarily for their children's well-being. "It’s not hard ever between me and Patrick — we’re family, we’re there for the kids and whatever happens outside the house we don’t bring it in," she said. She added that if either were to pursue a new relationship seriously, they would need to discuss separate living arrangements, but the house remains a shared asset they are reluctant to sell.
McGuinness previously discussed her dating life and sexuality on the "It Started With A Kiss" podcast. She identified as a "five-star lesbian," expressing attraction to masculine women and a preference for being the dominant partner during intimacy. "I just like to make sure that they know that I'm not just here to lie down. I'm here to eat. I'm hungry," she confessed.
Looking ahead, McGuinness expressed a desire for a future partnership, not necessarily a legal marriage, but a celebration of love she described as having "a wife." She also finds value in maintaining separate spheres for her personal and professional lives, stating that the current arrangement allows her to work and enjoy her time in London without the immediate responsibilities of home. "My family, my kids, my home is up there and then I come to London, step off that train, I can work, have fun, I can sleep in and I don't need to worry about everything," she said.
She is currently taking a measured approach to relationships, preferring to focus on the present. "I'm just seeing how things go and just figuring out. I'm trying to not plan too far ahead," McGuinness commented. She also finds herself meeting people through social events and has noted that she often interacts with individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. "I'm quite lucky that I'm mixing in circles with you know a lot of gay, bi and pans [pansexuals]," she added.
McGuinness also confirmed that while she does not plan to create content for OnlyFans, she participates in a similar subscription-based service offering exclusive content that is described as sensual, featuring lingerie or experiences. One such experience she mentioned was Shibari, the art of rope bondage.
She explained her engagement with Shibari as a way to explore vulnerability and control, stemming from her post-divorce self-discovery and experiences dating women. "This was part of me getting to know myself after my divorce and then dating women and realising that with women that I quite liked wanting to be more dominant and wanting to be in control," she stated. McGuinness views Shibari as a way to understand one's preference for either taking the lead or relinquishing control in a relationship. "And there’s no right or wrong. But for me it was pretty like 50/50. I want to do both… I want to tie you up and I want you to tie me up. I want both. That’s what I’m learning," she concluded.
