Christiane Amanpour to Depart CNN After 43 Years

Christiane Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, announced she will be leaving the network after a 43-year tenure. In a statement released on Monday, Amanpour shared her decision, which she indicated followed months of contemplation. She plans to pursue "new projects down the line" and continue her commitment to independent journalism.

Amanpour will conclude her daily shows on CNN and PBS at the end of the current year. She is scheduled to maintain a weekly show on CNN through May, with a transition period extending into June. Her PBS program, "Amanpour & Company," is an extension of her CNN International program.

CNN Editor-in-Chief Mark Thompson acknowledged Amanpour's departure, expressing regret but accepting it as the right time for her professionally and personally. He referred to her as a "CNN icon" and a globally recognized journalist, highlighting her extensive reporting, exclusive interviews, and numerous accolades.

Amanpour's departure comes shortly after Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a development that has raised questions about the future of CNN and its integration under new corporate ownership.
