Christian Horner Received $67 Million Severance From Red Bull
Documents reveal significant payout to former F1 team principal following dismissal and scandal.
Christian Horner received a severance package totaling £67 million (approximately $95 million USD) after his dismissal from the Red Bull Formula One team, according to documents filed with Companies House and reported by the Daily Mail.
The payment, described as 'compensation for loss of office,' was split between Red Bull's parent company and the Formula One team. Horner, who had served as team principal for 20 years and led the team to numerous championships, was sacked in July 2025 following a scandal involving alleged text messages sent to a female employee.
Despite the allegations and an internal investigation, Horner maintained his innocence and was twice cleared of any wrongdoing by Red Bull. The scandal intensified when screenshots of purported WhatsApp conversations between Horner and a female colleague were leaked to individuals within the Formula One community prior to the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix.
His wife, Geri Halliwell of the Spice Girls, reportedly stood by him during the controversy. The woman who accused Horner of coercive behavior was later reportedly released from her most recent position in motor racing under circumstances described as a loss of confidence by her new employer due to a "lack of discretion."
Horner's tenure at Red Bull, which began in 2005, saw the team achieve significant success, including multiple drivers' and constructors' championships with drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Amidst speculation about his potential return to Formula One, Horner had expressed interest in joining Ferrari, calling it his "dream" team. However, Ferrari has publicly reaffirmed its confidence in its current team principal, Fred Vasseur. Maria Conti, Ferrari's chief communications officer, stated that the team has made its choices and fully supports Vasseur and his staff, aiming to quell rumors about leadership changes.
Vasseur's leadership at Ferrari has faced scrutiny regarding the team's performance, despite the significant investment in drivers like Lewis Hamilton. Reports also suggest Vasseur has faced personal health challenges and criticism for his communication style within the Italian team.
