Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike was transported to a hospital after showing signs of life following two lethal injections during her scheduled execution, according to her legal team. Her attorneys filed an emergency motion to halt the execution, stating that Pike had lost consciousness but still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring.
Pike, 50, was sentenced to death in 1996 for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. The execution attempt took place on Wednesday.
One of Pike's attorneys informed the BBC that she was receiving life-saving measures at the hospital after two syringes of pentobarbital were administered. The legal team's motion highlighted that the execution appeared to be failing as it was occurring.
