Christa Pike Released From Hospital After Botched Execution

Christa Pike has been released from the hospital and transferred back to prison, more than a week after her execution was halted due to complications. Pike's attorneys confirmed her return to prison on Saturday.

Pike was scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on September 30. Following the administration of the injections, she reportedly appeared to still be breathing and was subsequently transported to a hospital. Her legal team, which includes Stephen Ferrell and Luke Ihnen from Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee, and Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason from the Tennessee Office of the Post Conviction Defender, stated that Pike is grateful for the care she received from first responders and medical personnel.

Pike will continue to receive medical care while incarcerated, and her attorneys indicated they would monitor her recovery. Pike remains the only woman on Tennessee's death row.
