Chrissie Swan Hospitalized for Medical Emergency, Addresses Hiatus from Nova FM Show

Nova FM radio host Chrissie Swan recently experienced a medical emergency that led to an unexpected hospitalization and a hiatus from her on-air duties. Swan, 53, addressed her absence in an Instagram video on Thursday, explaining that the unplanned event required her to be in the hospital for an extended period.

"A couple of months ago I had a medical emergency. Completely unplanned, as emergencies are, and was in hospital for ages," Swan stated in the video. "This was weird for me because I have only ever been to hospital to have babies, which was good news. This certainly wasn't."

Swan, who hosts a show on Nova FM, said she is currently still resting at home and focusing on recovery. "I'm still resting at home. Lots of sleep, reading, sorting out the spice drawers. Today I feel the best I've felt in weeks, months," she shared. She expressed gratitude for the messages from listeners inquiring about her return. "Thank you so much for your messages. As soon as I'm better, I will be back," she assured her audience, adding, "Sorry to cause so much concern - it was a worry for me too. But I’m heading in the right direction."

Colleagues from Nova FM and other media personalities shared their support in the comments section of her Instagram post. Fellow presenter Joel Creasey wrote, "Miss your face, we are all missing you around the office." Veteran presenter Michael 'Wippa' Wipfli added, "So good to see. We've got you buddy! Sending love."

Swan has previously spoken publicly about her health journey. In 2022, she discussed with The Australian Women's Weekly how the extensive COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne were a catalyst for her focus on health and fitness. She noted that the significant lifestyle changes made during that time, particularly increased walking, had positively impacted her well-being. In an interview with The Herald Sun, Swan also mentioned her ongoing commitment to health, and on "The Imperfects" podcast, she described how walking had fundamentally changed her life. "I was 45 and I went, 'I reckon I'm halfway to dying'," she recalled. "Am I happy with this going on? Am I happy with who I am with other people, am I happy with who I am for me? What do I want to change? And then I started to walk, and I get emotional thinking about it because walking has absolutely changed my life."
