Chris Watts' Parents Break Silence, Detail Rift with In-Laws

Ronnie and Cindy Watts, the parents of convicted murderer Chris Watts, have broken an eight-year silence to discuss the profound impact of their son's crimes and a persistent rift with the family of his slain wife, Shanann Watts.

Chris Watts was convicted in 2018 for the murders of his pregnant wife, Shanann, and their two young daughters, Bella and Celeste. He is currently serving five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. The Watts family has largely remained out of public view since the conviction, grappling with the events and their son's role in them.

In a rare statement, Ronnie and Cindy Watts revealed the deep pain and complexities their family has endured. They have spoken about their son's actions and the ongoing anguish of losing their grandchildren. The couple also addressed a strained relationship with Shanann's parents, Frank and Sandy Rzucek, with whom they have had limited contact. The Rzuceks have reportedly expressed a desire to have their grandchildren, Bella and Celeste, returned to them.

According to reports, Chris Watts' parents have found it difficult to reconcile the son they knew with the man who committed such heinous crimes. Ronnie Watts has reportedly questioned how his son could have committed the murders, even holding up a paper plate during prison visits and asking Chris to explain how he fit the bodies into a space that size. Cindy Watts has expressed that while she acknowledges her son's guilt and imprisonment for killing his wife, she struggles with the murders of the children.

The family rift is further highlighted by differing perspectives on the events and the aftermath. Ronnie Watts has publicly stated his belief that Nichol Kessinger, Chris Watts' mistress at the time, played a significant role in his son's actions. This sentiment appears to be a point of contention between the two families.

Ronnie and Cindy did prod their son to speak the unspeakable. Holding up a paper plate during a prison visit, Ronnie allegedly waved it like a flag, begging Chris: ‘Will you please explain to me how you fit their bodies in a hole this size?’

Chris Watts confessed to strangling his wife, Shanann, and smothering their daughters, Bella and Celeste, before disposing of their bodies in oil wells. Shanann was 15 weeks pregnant at the time of the murders. The children were buried in Aberdeen, North Carolina.

The ongoing trauma and the public nature of the case continue to affect the Watts family. Their decision to speak out appears to stem from a need to address the narrative and their personal experiences following the devastating crimes committed by their son.
