Comedian Chris Rock stated that former President Donald Trump was accurate in his criticism of news reporting, suggesting this point almost redeems Trump for "other sins." Rock shared his views in a recent interview with Variety, where he discussed his career and his thoughts on various public figures.
Rock, who previously predicted Trump's victory in the 2016 election, reiterated his stance that he is not a supporter of the former president. However, he acknowledged that Trump's repeated assertions about the media being "fake" are correct. "The news is fake. He got that right," Rock told Variety.
Curtis Houck, managing editor of the Media Research Center's NewsBusters, commented on Rock's remarks, telling Fox News Digital that the widespread awareness of media bias and journalistic shortcomings will be a lasting aspect of Trump's legacy. Houck suggested that Rock's sentiment aligns with that of many.
In a separate instance in 2023, Rock commented on the potential legal consequences for Trump. While speaking in Washington, D.C., he warned that arresting Trump could increase his popularity, comparing it to the effect of arresting deceased rapper Tupac Shakur. "Are you guys really going to arrest Trump?" Rock asked. "Do you know this is only going to make him more popular. It's like arresting Tupac. He's just gonna sell more records. Are you stupid?"
Trump has frequently criticized news organizations, particularly CNN, for what he has characterized as inaccurate reporting. In one instance, he told a reporter in the Oval Office that Trump criticized CNN’s reporting while responding to a reporter’s question in the Oval Office. Recently, Trump called for the FCC to investigate NBC anchor Kristen Welker over her reporting on his election endorsement record.
