Chris Pratt: Audiences Crave 'Unapologetic, Patriotic' Action

Actor Chris Pratt believes there is a significant audience in the United States eager for "unapologetic, patriotic" action stories, attributing the success of his series "The Terminal List" to fulfilling this demand.

Speaking on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon, Pratt explained that the show connects with an "underserved audience" that appreciates its straightforward, patriotic action narrative. He emphasized the importance of authenticity in the series, which is based on a book series about a Navy SEAL. Pratt stated that the production team includes numerous veterans, with some serving as executive producers, to ensure accuracy in depicting combat, tactics, and jargon.

"These guys have a real eye for combat based on their experience and it's really authentic," Pratt said. "Veterans will come up and say, ‘You know, I served. I did a couple deployments and the action, the behavior, the tactics, the jargon, the decorum, all of it is really authentic,’ and I think that's why people like it."

Pratt highlighted that he learned about combat primarily through movies and that the involvement of real Navy SEALs adds a layer of credibility that resonates with viewers. He mentioned that the first season focused on a Navy SEAL seeking vengeance after his platoon and family were killed, ending with his mission's completion.

Regarding the upcoming season, Pratt teased that "The Terminal List" will shift towards a "globe-trotting global spy thriller" with an emphasis on espionage and international intrigue, drawing from the subsequent books in the series. The second season of "The Terminal List" premiered on Prime on Oct. 21.
